Sreenu Vytla has become the hottest director in Tollywood now. The director is all the more in demand because of his knack of finishing off his films in record time. Sreenu now has the added reputation of being able to deliver minimum guarantee films to his producers. He is currently directing 'King' with Akkineni Nagarjuna in the lead role. He has signed a film with Venkatesh next that is to be produced by Suresh Productions. It is learnt that he has also been approached by both the Nagarjuna camp and Chiranjeevi camp to direct the scions of the families, Naga Chaitanya and Ramcharan Teja. For a director who was almost written off after the poor showing of Megastar's Andarivadu, this is a remarkable turnaround. It is also being said now that Sreenu is charging a cool Rs. 3 crore per movie and is all set to double the figure!

Mohan Babu is like my brother – Balakrishna

It was a time for reunion at the launch of the audio of 'Nenu Meeku Telusa' last night at Prasadz labs preview theater. The film starring Manchu Manoj Kumar, Raima Sen and Sneha Ullal had a star studded audio release with Nandamuri Balakrishna and Mohan Babu standing out as the main attraction. NBK said that Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures was like his own banner and Mohan Babu was like his own brother. He also praised Mohan Babu for giving the young team of Nenu Meeku Telusa a free hand in making the film. Mohan Babu said that the entire project was handled by the kids and when he saw the final rushes he was convinced that the director had delivered what he had promised. Director Ajay Sastri thanked the entire team and said that the film was a result of teamwork. K Raghavendra Rao, Lakshmi Manchu, YVS Chowdary, MM Keeravani and others spoke on the occasion. The music scored by debutante Achu came in for praise from the guests.

Ravi Teja's next named 'Koti...naa ko'

Ravi Teja and Surender Reddy's new flick has an interesting title. 'Koti...naa ko' is the title under consideration for this flick which is set to roll soon. The film has a major schedule in the US initially which is expected to last for 40 days. Ravi Teja's hit heroine from 'Krishna', Trisha will pair up with him one more time. The film is produced by RR Movie Makers. Surender Reddy is said to be working doubly hard on the script to ensure that there are no letups this time. Ravi Teja is currently acting in Neninthe and will start shooting for 'Koti....naa ko' after finishing Neninthe. The title 'Koti....naa ko' surely shows there is some profanity in the flick and it will be interesting to see if the censors approve it!

Mahesh's Varudu to start shooting in Rajasthan

Our filmmakers are constantly looking for fresh backdrops to shoot their films and there are phases when a particular place gets extremely popular and then loses its sheen. Rajasthan currently seems the hot favorite for our directors. SS Rajamouli has shot a large part of his film with Ramcharan Teja in Rajasthan already. The latest news is that Trivikram Srinivas has also chosen Rajasthan as the backdrop for his film with Mahesh in the lead role. The film is likely to be titled 'Varudu' and has been in the planning and scripting stages for a while now. It is finally going to take off on August 28 and will start shooting in Rajasthan in the first week of September. The film pairs Mahesh with Parvathi Melton and is being produced by Singanamala Ramesh.

Nagarjuna's 'King' logo to be unveiled on Nag's Birthday

Yuvasamrat Akkineni Nagarjuna's latest film 'King's logo will be unveiled in a function to be held on August 29, his birthday. The function is scheduled to be held at Taj Krishna hotel in Hyderabad. The film is being directed by Sreenu Vytla and pairs Nagarjuna with Trisha for the first time. It is being produced by D Sivaprasad Reddy on his Kamakshi movies banner. Sreenu Vytla is moulding the film as a full length comedy entertainer. Nagarjuna's previous release Don also had its logo unveiled on Nagarjuna's birthday and was released on December 18 which is also the planned release date for 'King'. Lets see if 'King' manages to match the success of Don and go beyond it.

Karunakaran to direct films with Ram and Tarun soon

Director Karunakaran seems to have gotten a new lease of life thanks to his 'Ullasanga Utsahangaa'. The director entered the industry with a bang with 'Tholiprema', but his later films did not measure up to the success of his first film. 'Ullasanga Utsahangaa' also found the pre release period quite tough until 'Dil' Raju stepped in and offered to distribute the film. With the film running successfully all over the state, Karunakaran is back in demand. He informed the press yesterday that he had two scripts ready and young heroes Ram and Tarun had agreed to do the films. He said that other details were being worked out and both the films will start next month. We wish and hope that the director churns out more good films like his first and last releases!

Rajnikanth to do a quick film with Murugadoss?

Tamil Nadu is rife with news that Superstar Rajnikanth has agreed to do a film with 'Gajini' director Murugadoss. The superstar is currently in the US doing a photoshoot for Shankar's magnum opus 'Robot'. It is being said that Rajnikanth was disappointed by the poor showing of Kathanayakudu (Kuselan in Tamil) and has promised to return money to distributors. Since Shankar's film will take a minimum of an year to complete because of the CG work involved, Rajni thinks he can do a film in the meanwhile to keep his fans happy. Even though Sultan will release next summer, it is only an animated flick and the superstar wants to reign the screen one more time before 'Robot' arrives.

Anushka's statement in the media that appeared yesterday seem to have come at an opportune time. Or was the time chosen carefully? Anushka, in an interview yesterday, said that she is ready to wear a bikini if the scene demands it. She said that she is against skin show for the sake of it, but if it elevates the scene and is in tune with the flow of the film, she does not mind. Now, around the same time, it is announced that Prabhas will work in the remake of the Hindi feature 'Don' under the direction of Meher Ramesh. It is well known that Don has a famous bikini scene. Zeenat Aman donned it in the original, Priyanka Chopra, in the latest remake and Nayantara in the Tamil version, Billa. Did Anushka say that to grab the attention of the director of Don? The shoot of Chintakayala Ravi, a Venkatesh-Anushka starrer, is under brisk shoot in and around Hyderabad. M. Yogie is the director with Nallamalupu Bujji producing it on his home banner Lakshmi Narasimha Productions. The current schedule will continue till August 31. The next schedule will be there from September mid. The balance of two songs would be shot abroad, he said.

Don't come to Hyd on 22: Chiru to fans

Megastar-turned politician Chiranjeevi today appealed to the fans not to come to Hyderabad on August 22nd, his birthday. The newly inaugurated Party office of actor Chiranjeevi turned into a structure of fascination thanks to its optimal utilization of fast spreading construction technology. Located at Rd. Nitin injured in a fight sequence

Nitin was injured in a stunt sequence for a film at Ramoji film city at around 6:30 pm. He was hitting a tube light as a part of his stunt sequence and that broken glass of the tube light hit on his face. He is taken to Apollo Hospital now. The hospital sources said that the injury is very minor and nothing to be worried about.

Jagapathi Babu's film unit attacked in Kashmir

Jagapathi Babu and Meera Jasmine starrer 'Bangaru Babu' which is shooting in Kashmir faced some trouble in the valley yesterday. It is known that the valley has been burning over the last few days due to the protests over the Amarnath shrine land. The shooting was going on Sona Marg in Srinagar when some protesters pelted stones at the unit. There were no injuries to any unit members and the producer immediately packed up the shoot and moved everyone back to safety with the help of the Army and the Police. Jonnalagadda Srinivasa Rao is directing the flick. Jagapathi Babu said that he had talked to senior director Dasari Narayana Rao about the flick and he in turn talked to officials in Srinagar and they had assured that they would be flown back to Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Allu Arjun's Arya-2 launched

A formal puja was held in Ramanaidu studios on 8 August 2008 for launching ‘Arya 2’ which is a sequel to Arya. The media was not invited. Allu Arjun, film producers BVSN Prasad, and Aditya Babu, Sukumar, Dil Raju, and Allu Aravid attended the function. Chiru's Chandiyagam at Kanchi

Megastar Chiranjeevi is going to perform the two-day sacred Chandiyagam at the temple of Goddess Kamakshi at Kancheepuram, on August 21 and 22. Temple priest Natana Sastry said that he would personally supervise the auspicious ritual with 50 veda pandits. He said though the yagam would commence on 21st, the actor would be arriving on 22, but couldn't say at what time exactly. "Chandi Yagam is meant for getting riches and political power. In the past, the same yagam was performed by Vajapayee and Rajiv Gandhi," he said.

Venkatesh launches 'Ashta Chemma' music

Director Mohan Krishna Indraganti, who won a National award for his first film 'Grahanam' has come up with a fun film 'Ashta Chemma'. The music of the film was released yesterday by hero Venkatesh. Venkatesh's brother Suresh Babu presents the film. The film stars Swathi and Nani. Swathi, who made her debut with Colors program on MAA TV captured everyone's imaginations with her performance in the Venkatesh starrer 'Aadavaari maatalaku arthaale verule'. The music for the film is scored by Kalyani Mallik. The director of the film spoke on the occasion and said that he had presented the script that he had prepared exactly on screen and that gave him ultimate satisfaction. Venkatesh wished the unit luck and success. Swathi said that 'Ashta Chemma' was a cute film and it would be liked by audiences of all age groups. Hero Nani said that he was selected via auditions and that he felt proud to be making his debut in such a superb feature film. The audio was released by Big Music.

'Mantra' director in MS Raju’s camp

M S Raju who tasted miserable flop with his directorial venture Vaana is now concentrating on mere production. He has planned several productions this year. Already he is producing Maska with Ram and Hansika in the lead roles which is being directed by B Gopal. Although M S Raju still involves in the creative aspects of his films, he is now more into rolling on several movies as producer. He has taken young director Tulasi Ram (of Mantra fame) into his fold to begin another movie this year. Varun Sandesh of Happy Days fame is the hero. It is going to be an unusual love story.

Raja – Krishnam Raju's 'Samardhudu' flagged of by Prabhas

Heartthrob actor Raja's next film titled 'Samardhudu' had its muhoorat today in Annapurna Studios. The film stars veteran actor Krishnam Raju. Sanjana (of Bujjigaadu fame) is paired opposite Raja in the flick. The film is being directed by debutante Arjun. It is being produced jointly by Akula Suresh and Venkatrami Reddy under the banners of Devika Productions and Orange Frames. The clap for the Muhoorat shot was given by actor Prabhas. Krishnam Raju said that the film will completely be a director's film and that he respects the director of each every film he works in irrespective of their age and experience.

Hero Raja said he had seen Krishnam Raju's 'Trisoolam' innumerable number of times and considered it a honor to be working alongside the legendary actor. The director of the film, Arjun said that the subject was action and message oriented and he was sure it would be a hit. The music for the film is to be scored by another debutante V. Rajasekhar.

Pawan Kalyan's divorce case ends – wife gets Rs. 5 crore

Actor Pawan Kalyan's divorce case finally ended with an out of court settlement. Pawan Kalyan was married to Nandini in March 1997. The couple separated soon after due to some differences. Sometime later, Pawan started living with model and actress Renu Desai with whom he has a son. Nandini filed a case in the court at this juncture saying that the actor had not divorced her and had married again. The bigamy case was initially thrown out of court, but Nandini appealed to the High court. This was followed by the actor's counsel approaching Nandini for an out of court settlement. The girl had initially asked for Rs. 8 crore to withdraw the case, but finally agreed for Rs. 5 crore. Nandini's counsel informed that they will withdraw the proceedings against the actor now.

NTR – VV Vinayak film to begin August 28

Finally, the third film in the combination of Jr. NTR and VV Vinayak is all set to take off. The film's shoot is slated to begin on August 28. After Aadi and Samba which were both action dramas with a revenge theme, Vinayak is said to have prepared an action oriented love story for NTR this time. The film will see Ileana pair up with Jr. NTR once again after Rakhi. There was earlier news that the film will be a story about cops, but that is apparently not true. Vinayak, who emerged the box office winner this Sankranthi with the Ravi Teja starrer 'Krishna' is aiming to release the film next Sankranthi. Jr. NTR whose Andhrawala released in January came a cropper wants to overcome the Sankranthi jinx with this flick. We can only wish them luck and hope that the beginning for the Telugu film industry next year is a great one.

NBK's next flick to be presented by YS Jagan?

What will NBK's next flick be? That seems to be the question on everyone's mind. The dailies recently splashed the news that Gemini Film Circuit will produce the actor's next flick in the direction of Boyapati Srinu. This news was also confirmed by the actor's associates. A couple days after that Gemini Film Circuit came out with an announcement that they were producing a new film with Gopichand in the lead role in the direction of Boyapati Srinu. There was news sometime ago that Mahadev, an associate of Rajamouli had prepared a script for NBK that the actor approved. There is no news about that project either.

Grapevine has it that it might be Tamil director Lingusamy who will finally get the chance to direct Balayya. Lingusamy had earlier directed 'Run' and 'Pandem Kodi'. The interesting aspect of this flick is that Cuddapah mayor Ravindranath Reddy, who earlier produced 'Yogi' will produce the flick while the Chief Minister's son YS Jagan will present it. YS Jagan is a big Balakrishna fan and is known to have been the president of one of the fans associations of the star at one time.

Rajni-Aish to meet in US?

Rajnikanth's much-pampered film Robot with Shankar directing it will have its initial schedule of shoot in the US, for which the superstar is going fly to there in a few days. He himself confirmed this at Tirumala. Interestingly, Aishwarya Roy Bachchan, the heroine of Robot, is also in the US currently as part of Bachchan's worldwide Unforgettable tour. It is widely premised that the beauty queen might join the Robot unit for the shoot also. But, Rajni said he had no exact idea about Shankar's schedule planning.

Ramanaidu Film Institute shortly in Hyderabad

Dr.Ramanaidu is launching a new Film Institute in Hyderabad shortly. A press meet was organized yesterday at Rama Naidu Studios, to make an announcement about their new Film Institute. It’s learnt that all measures with regard to ‘Direction and Screen Writing’ will be embedded from 18th August, from the date of issue of prospectus and application forms.
While explaining to the media about his new Film Institute Suresh Babu said that the first batch will start by Dussera with about 25 students and the admissions are on merit basis and an entrance test where the minimum qualification of the candidate should be a degree, or otherwise an exception to the outstanding talents. He added that it’s his ever-lasting dream to start a Film Institute besides possessing Ramanaidu Studios. He further said, “Our Institute will be with much higher standards comparing with that of Pune and Chennai. Our aim is increase the standards of film making in Tollywood.”

Explaining about the fee structure Suresh said, “Though the fee of the course is planned for about 2 lakhs, we would like to offer a free course for the deserving candidates. A direct training will be given to the candidates. The course consists of one and half year and the merit holders will be considered to work for the projects of Suresh Productions.”

Chiru’s First public meeting in Tirupati

With the information from reliable sources it is understood that after the announcement of Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics, the first public meeting will be held at Tirupathi during the last week of this month. Prior to the week of his first public meeting, he is likely to announce his plans in Hyderabad about his State tour. Tirupathi being an auspicious place it is presumed that every thing will go on well with the blessings of Sri Lord Venkateswara. A public ground was selected for organizing the meeting at Tirupathi.

In regard to this a core committee meeting was held at Hyderabad and important decisions were taken. After the inspection of site by Allu Aravind the rest of the plans for the meeting will be finalized. There is no proper information about the date of the meeting, but lot of speculations are heard that it may either be on Aug15th or Chiru's birthday or on the birthday of Mother Theresa. The party office built with prefab technology is likely to start on August 10.

Jayasudha steps into Congress

Cine actress Ms Jayasudha is joining the Congress Party. Since long time it’s been heard that Jayasudha will join Congress and the time has now come for the public to believe as she will formally join the party shortly in the presence of Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy and D.Srinivas, President of PCC. This is gaining importance to Congress during the time of launching of Chiranjeevi’s party. She announced to the media today that she is in social service activities since a long time which developed an interest in her to come into politics and serve the public. She praised Rajasekhar Reddy for starting Arogya Sri Scheme to help the poor. She opined that his schemes have inspired her to enter into politics and serve the people.

Krishna confirms Mahesh films

It is not surprising to see the biggies like UTV and Rajinikanth family taking keen interest in working with Krishna family. In one project by Gowtham Menon, Krishna’s daughter Manjula joins hands with UTV to produce a bilingual movie which may commence by end 2008. In another project Rajni’s daughter Soundarya along with Warner Brothers knocked the doors of Krishna’s house for a movie that would be directed by another biggie Puri Jagannath which will take shape in 2009 and finally we also know Trivikram’s association with Krishna’s family for yet another project titled ‘Varudu’ whose shooting would commence any moment. NTR – Vinayak’s new venture from Aug 28

After Aadi and Samba, the duo NTR – Vinayak are preparing themselves for their latest project that is to go on sets from August 28, starting with an introductory song to be shot on NTR in Hyderabad. It appears that, both are working over time with a sole intention to create an impression and make the project a big hit unlike Samba. That’s the precise reason for their selecting a very different theme than their earlier projects. According to reliable sources, it’s understood that this flick casting NTR-Ileana is said to be a love story unlike NTR’s earlier movies that were dominated by violence and action. There is a dialogue by Super Star in this film: "Janam cinema bagunteney choosathaaru. Lekapothey ee Super Star natinchinaa choodaru". Let us see if those 'janam' come to this film or not.

Story:It is the story of two friends Barber Balu (Jagapathi Babu) and Super Star Ashok Kumar (Rajni Kanth). Barber Balu is very pious at heart, sincere at work and never dreams high. He lives with his wife Sridevi (Meena) and three children. The villagers are cold towards Balu and his family as they believe that he is misfit to make good earnings. Another barber (Sunil) plays smart and earns big using some gimmicks. Once, Super Star Ashok Kumar happens to come to that village, Sirisilla for shooting. Entire village gets carried away by the aura of Super Star. Knowing that Balu is the childhood friend of Ashok Kumar entire village comes to him to take them to Super Star for photographs. Even Balu's children and wife ask him to take to Ashok Kumar. But Balu fears that Super Star may not recognize him after 3 decades of friendship. Finally, what happens? Can Balu meet Super Star? That gets unleashed at the grand finale.

Performances: Rajni Kanth is the sole attractor in this movie. The film got huge crowds at box office for the element of 'Rajni' in it and there is no dispute in that. Rajni Kanth's speech recalling his childhood in a school function in the last 15 minutes moves many audiences. That stands out to be the highlight in entire movie. Jagapathi Babu is ok in his role. There is nothing special with respect to slang or diction but acted in his routine style. Meena, after a long time appeared on screen and still with enough of spark and lush. Nayantara is ok for glamour show. No one knows why Mamatha Mohandas agreed to do that most unimportant role. Others are just ok. Ali, Sunil and Dharmavarapu are used for spilling laughs but they couldn't do up to their standards. Brahmanandam's role is mere waste. Any small time artiste would have been ok for that. Prabhu acted as security cop to Rajni Kanth. Songs were shot in rich manner but the music is very pale. Dialogues are weak. No punch in comedy and no depth in sentiment are seen.

Direction is amateur in many facets. Some ups and downs in P Vasu's direction:

  Vasu failed to utilize the key scenes for bringing in depth. He failed to record the reaction in the faces of Barber Balu and Super Star Ashok Kumar when the son of the former says that his name is 'Ashok Kumar'.

  People don't understand why Balu is not called on to the stage either by organizers of the school function or local people there, when Super Star Rajni Kanth says about him and sheds tears.

  Why Jagapathi Babu sheds tears while calling to guest-house where Super Star stays? That is another connectivity problem in screenplay.

It's only Cinematography and Art Director's jobs are marvelous in totality.

Analysis: Entire movie is about a barber meeting 'Super Star'. But that scene was not showcased well. Necessary depth hasn't worked out in that old friends' reunion scene. And the purpose of entire film is only meeting the Star. But what the Star has in return did to that barber-friend? What the Star did to that village? Director didn't go to those areas. The film concludes when the Star meets barber. The movie runs in dull mode until Rajni Kanth comes on to screen. Only then the tempo picks up. SP Balasubrahmanyam's dubbing to Rajni Kanth worked well. It sounds a bit new as people got accustomed to Mano's dubbing all these years. To sum up, the film would certainly go into masses for 'Rajni Factor' in it. And it is the same Rajni factor that should keep box offices sounding. The subject is very good but director under-played to handle it in the way it should be. Things would have been better if proper care was taken in scene composition and tempo balance.

King Nagarjuna in three avatars

Nag’s ‘King’ is progressing briskly, currently shooting at Ramoji Film City. As we are aware, Sreenu Vytla who has a special talent in grasping the pulse of audience is once trying his hand on Nag as ‘King’. Reliable sources reveal that Nag is playing three roles – the first being the ‘King’ himself, the second is a Managing Director and the third is a mass character. Devisri Prasad seems to have impressed Nag with his musical scores in this film which boosted Nag’s confidence level to a higher range after his Don’s failure. To add some more luck, Trisha is pairing with him having given two consecutive hits AMAV and Krishna. D Siva Prasad Reddy, Nag’s good old friend is producing this full fledged entertainer under Kamakshi Movies banner.

Balakrishna, Venky graced VI Santosham Film Awards at HICC

The Oberoi VI Santosham Film Awards presented today at the HICC (Hyderabad International Conventional Centre), HITEX, Hyderabad. Despite drenching rain, nearly ten thousand people thronged the venue, while most of them stayed out as they were not allowed by the police personnel coupled with the HIICC security. At the entrance of the HITEX, several vehicles were sent back, though they displayed the car passes issued to them. Several old people and children had to walk a distance of about two kilometers inside the sprawling campus to reach the venue, in heavy rain.
